CUMULUS MEDIA | Nashville, TN is searching for an Assistant Engineer/ IT Technician.   The Assistant Engineer/ IT Technician assists the Chief Engineer and IT Manager in installation, maintenance and repair of studio, transmitter, and ancillary equipment in order to maintain competitive broadcast signals in the market while complying with all FCC technical requirements. Includes responsibility for telecommunications, computer, and networking systems.

Cumulus Media | Nashville, TN is a high energy, fast-paced market that currently features 5 stations in the Nashville and surrounding area.  Our stations include:  104.5 The Zone – WGFX-FM, 92Q – WQQK-FM, Nash Icon 95.5 – WSM-FM, Super Talk 99.7 WTN – WWTN-FM and 1033 County – WKDF-FM along with nationally syndicated shows Morning Koffy, Nights with Elaina and American Country Countdown with Kix Brooks. This cluster of stations reaches thousands of listeners daily.  


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assists in maintaining station operation through preventative and corrective maintenance.
  • Follows routine maintenance procedures and schedules for all broadcast equipment.
  • Installation and maintenance of broadcast audio consoles, audio routers, recording equipment, microphones, digital audio systems, transmitters, antennas, control systems, codecs, remote broadcast equipment, backup generators.
  • Assists with day-to-day IT maintenance and support of computer networks and related systems.
  • Works with Programming/ Promotion Departments to coordinate and maintain remote broadcasts as needed.
  • Tracking of station vehicle maintenance
  • Responsibilities include compliance with FCC rules and regulations.
  • Travel to other markets or towers and stations may be required.
  • 24/7 on call


Job Requirements


  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Interact with management and staff at all levels and ability to multi-task and handle pressures and deadlines.
  • Excellent problem-solving and prioritization skills.
  • Thorough understanding of signal flow across varying systems.
  • Experience with cluster-wide audio routing, digital audio delivery, EAS, Studio Telephone, Broadcast Engineering, RF, IT and back-office systems.
  • Computer literacy in applicable software packages (Microsoft OS, Office 365, Active Directory, Azure, Broadcast Automation Systems, Macintosh, Linux, etc.)
  • Ability to work independently to troubleshoot/repair high-power FM transmitting facilities.
  • Advanced IT skills including local area and wide area networking.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems, UPS, and standby generators and record keeping. 
  • Knowledge of telephone systems and protocols including POTS, ISDN, T1, DSL and PRI circuits
  • RF (transmitter) experience a plus.
  • May be required to lift 50 pounds.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders is required.
  • Minimum 3+ years in broadcast engineer or related field preferred

Education and Licensing:

  • Associates or technical degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or related field or equivalent level of experience
  • SBE CBT and/or CBNT Certification a plus
  • Must possess valid state driver’s license and provide required proof of personal vehicle insurance
